Debates on NEET, exam reforms, and the CJP agitations highlight a generational shift in politics. The agitation’s nature, motives, and anti‑social participation are well known. Even a top RSS ideologue admitted the BJP IT cell is cut off from youngsters.
Environment as a Wake‑Up Call
The next wave of anger will be about the environment. The BJP’s “development model” risks triggering street protests that anti‑national forces can hijack. Misreading this anger among youth is dangerous.
Unlike those above 40, youngsters are direct victims of environmental damage. Older generations inherited clean air and water but passed on oxygen masks and bottled water to the next.
Doctors warn newborns may not develop lungs properly if pollution continues. The health cost for Gen Z and beyond is immense — affecting individuals, society, and the nation.
Cities are collapsing under development pressure. Waterlogging, traffic jams, and loss of amenities add daily stress.

India has signed many environmental treaties, and state governments have taken initiatives and has indeed taken actions.
Cleaning the Yamuna is one example. Congress policies and AAP’s neglect worsened pollution, Delhi’s government is making honest efforts. Yet in the digital age, narratives — even fake ones — dominate, portraying failure is easy while people suffer. The media handlers will blame BJP. The reality is India is losing environment battle under the overall umbrella of development model.
The government futher aggregates the situation when it counters by branding sentiments as anti‑national, even if partly true. This signals close mindset that does not listen adding to the frustration of youngster.
The pulse of the Young Generation
Youngsters see themselves as victims of destruction, not beneficiaries of development. Quoting puranas in debates cannot hide the reality of mangrove loss, rising temperatures, and erratic monsoons. Devendra Fadnavis may take pride in coastal road projects and Supreme Court battles against environmentalists, but cities remain congested as “vikas” is defined by more cars and unplanned growth. Tree replantations fail, apologies pile up in courts, and branding environmentalists as “anti‑development” only deepens youth anger.
Girish Mahajan’s plan to fell trees in Nashik for Kumbh Mela sparked outrage. Branding the agitation anti‑Hindu was reckless and irresponsible act. Nashik, already a hub of terror activity, proven by TCS conversion case faces heightened tensions. Voters may prioritize security, but not at the cost of environmental destruction.
Public Pressure and Judicial Interventions
Public pressure forced the government to back out of the Aravali mining and Rajasthan solar projects. These movements had no political face — they were purely environmental. Courts reprimanded Telangana for overnight forest clearing, and Karnataka’s CM faced backlash over a Lalbagh tunnel proposal. Yet, anti‑social elements will exploit youth anger under the banner of environmental protection will direct blame at BJP rather than Congress.
The Missing Point in the Development Model
The BJP risks losing another battle despite good intentions because it ignores the second biggest threat to youth — the environment. Vikas is not bridges, highways, and airports or treaty signatures. It is air quality, water pollution, and the sustainability of life itself.
